Is there a need for a yearly pap smear if you have had a hysterectomy?
Answer: If you have had a complete hysterectomy and the reason for the operation was because of non-cancerous reasons you don’t need to have a yearly pap smear exam. The exam is performed to screen for cervical cancer and if your cervix and uterus have been completely removed due to non-benign reasons the exam will not need to be performed yearly. Always follow your physicians’ advice for yearly women’s health exams.
